What needs of yours are met today?

As some of you know, I’m a big fan of gratitude and noticing what IS working.. this is a powerful way to use the first step of the NVC model (observations) and the third step–focusing on needs. What do I see that I’m happy about in the world? At work? At home? What specific steps have I taken this year in meeting my needs? And what needs are being in my life? Today? In this moment? This week?

Gratitude–celebrating what is working- is powerful for individuals and organizations and is a key tool I coach managers around integrating with their teams.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I especially invite you to take in a dose of gratitude! Continue reading (via link below) to try two different exercises. Make a list of 3-5 things that you’re grateful for– be specific (observations are concrete–what you’d capture in a camcorder). Then using the list of feelings and needs, check how you’re feeling, thinking about these observations. And what needs are met for you? If you want help with the four steps, the same page includes a link to the four steps of the NVC model!
If you like, on the same page, you’ll find the Communication Transformer. See how you can practice this game around needs met! Just think of something you enjoyed hearing, and then focus on your feelings and needs met.
I hope you enjoy these exercises and inspiration! And as you head into the holidays, take a moment: What needs are you wanting to meet for yourself and with family and friends?
